Team Cherry has officially released Patch 2 for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which fixes some bugs and makes other minor tweaks to the game. The new Hollow Knight: Silksong update will likely be useful for players who have run into bugs that remained in the game after the first patch, as numerous problems have finally been corrected.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was released on September 4 after being in development for around seven years. Unsurprisingly, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been a huge hit, reaching over 5 million players across all platforms, with over 3 million sales on Steam alone, in its first week. The title was so successful that multiple online stores had issues when it launched, and reports indicate that the game, made by Team Cherry, has earned more than $50 million to date.
As the weeks since the game’s launch pass, Team Cherry is working hard to deliver the best version of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and the newest patch has now rolled out for all players. With Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Patch 2, over a dozen bugs were corrected, including some NPCs displaying incorrect lines during dialogue and problems with bosses not acting as intended. Some gamers may not be quite happy, however, that Cogflies were nerfed by the patch, as they will no longer “incorrectly reset their HP” to full-on-scene changes. Unfortunately, the patch still does not address the issues with the Simplified Chinese translation of Silksong, which Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin promises will be corrected “in the coming weeks.”
Unlike the first Hollow Knight: Silksong patch, the second update will likely not affect much of the game’s difficulty at all. The previous patch introduced some necessary nerfs to early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter, reduced damage from Sandcarvers, and made other balance tweaks that were appreciated by players struggling with the popular platformer.
Despite Silksong’s incredible popularity, part of the fanbase has been complaining that the game is too difficult, and the previous patch only somewhat mitigated the problems these players are having. These frequent complaints led Team Cherry developers to address the difficulty in Hollow Knight: Silksong during a recent interview. According to them, Hornet is inherently faster and more skillful than the previous protagonist, the Knight. To address that, each enemy had to be more complicated or intelligent, as players themselves were far more powerful. The team also highlighted how gamers can often follow other paths to mitigate the high difficulty via exploration and learning how to use Hornet more efficiently.
